Lella by Edouard Boubat circa 1949

Edouard Boubat (1923-1999). This portrait being his most famous “Lella” photographed in post war 1940’s France; it is certainly one of the most compelling portraits of the 20th century. He spent some time photographing these two girls, first one in the foreground then the other. Lella’s expression could easily be from the French revolution of the previous century, but the "see-through" blouse gives it another subtle dimension of sexuality.

Vintage 8.5 x 6inches silver gelatine original, inscribed and dated on the mount “Lella 1949 by Edouard Boubat”
